Sissy & Callie went
to live in their forever home on January 28, 2001. Their mom, Yvonne,
sent the following message about their new life. |

Hello everyone. I just wanted to send an
update about my little darlings. When they first came to us, after
spending 10 years in a cage. they were scared to death, so was I. They
looked like little skeletons, and would hide in the dark bedroom in
their beds. We thought they were deaf and afraid that they had taken out
Sissy's barker. They are not deaf, they just didn't know I was talking
to them, sort of like my husband. But now they are really sort of fat,
especial Callie, who just loves cheese and will steal it right out of
Sissies mouth, but not the cat's. Callie had a rude awaking when she
tried to steal the Slasher's cheese. So now I have them on Senior dog
food, which my husband says is a waste because they usually end up
eating what we eat, and only eat the dog food when there are no goodies
to eat. I was so excited the first time I came home from work and they
were all there at the door, wagging their tails, and Callie was barking
just like Bubbles, my Bischon, who I have had for 11 years. She takes
care of them, and mothers them to death. Callie runs around in circles,
(it is so cute) but it is not for me. She just knows that as soon as I
change my clothes, it is cheese time. She runs behind me and jumps up on
the back of my legs to hurry me along. Sissy I'm afraid is a sissy. She
is afraid of our new kitten, Sophia, AKA TUFFY. She just stomps her foot
at Sissy and she is off to her bed. But good news. Lately when Sophia
chases her she runs to me and I pick her up and she sits with me and if
Sophia gets up on my chair, (which of course she does) Sissy holds her
ground. We are so proud of her. When they are baking it is hard to tell
who is doing it. Bubbles is always on guard duty, and Callie is her back
up. But last night Sissy was running around chasing her tail, (so cute)
and she saw me and looked at me and barked. Not a real loud bark, but a
real bark. I was thrilled. They now come into the living room on their
own and lay by our feet. This is a big improvement from hiding in the
bedroom. Sissy of course wants up in my lap and to be loved on. Callie
expects her back scratched every time I come home. No petting for her,
starch please. She lays down and waits while I pet everyone else. Then
she has to have her starch. I finely got a back scratcher, she loves it.
Sissy will sit in her bed and wine until I pick her up. Every try
getting undressed holding a little dog? We are still in the house
breaking stage. Sissy knows to go outside and uses the patio cement, she
doesn't trust the grass. Callie, is another story. She will go outside
and look around and then come into the house and do her business. At
least she does it on the kitchen floor. Probably wants cheese, and is
showing her displeasure. But we don't force them to do anything, I know,
I know, probably not right, but I just can't bring myself to raise my
voice to them. They are still skittish and probably will always be. My
husband is of no help what so ever. I think they are doing really good
because I don't find any little presents from them in the morning, but
that is because my husband gets up first and makes a sweep of their
favorite places and gets rid of the evidence. He is just a big softy. I
could go on and on about the sweet little things they do, and I suppose
I already have, but everyday we see improvement. We don't push or hurry
them, we want them to come to us on their own. I did force them to go in
the car for rides and we always stop and let them out and run around
somewhere, and then off to Arby's ( I am not above bribery). They have
learned that going for rides is fun, and they like getting outside and
Sissy is not so suspicious of the grass. So to sum it up we just love
them to death and are so glad we adopted them. They are all our
children, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
