Ricky came to us
from his foster Mom, Nancy Salsi who lives outside of
Pittsburgh.
My husband, Ken and I instantly fell in love with him during the
home visit. He has big brown eyes, a little face and a smooth forehead
that we love to pet. He weighs 7 lbs. It
took him about a week to adjust to us. At first he sat on the sofa and
looked sad. After a week, he started
following us around and became more comfortable.
Now he wants to be with us constantly. He loves to go for rides
in the car and will sit on our laps. He is shy when meeting new people,
but after awhile he warms up to them. I take him to my Mom's
assisted living facility. The residents love
him and immediately want to told him.
I decided to take it slowly. At first he would squirm when placed
on their laps. I sat him on one lady's lap and stayed with them for a
while. Then I gradually let him stay longer
with her. Now he is used to her and
looks forward to the attention. On Thursday he sat on a new person's
lap while I helped bake Christmas cookies. At
home he enjoys playing with his squeeky toy, but his favorite part of
the day is mealtime. He gets fed in
the bathroom in his own special dish. He runs
in circles as I take the food to his special place. On special occasions
he get to gnaw on a raw soup bone with a little meat. Last weekend,
he has his picture taken with Santa at Animal Friends. Every
morning he goes with Ken to "breakfast" and the park for a
walk with his adopted brothers and
sister. When Ken comes home from work, Ricky gets excited
and runs frantically in circles and can't wait to play. Every evening
he goes back to the park. Nancy had a
mini Malt party at her house. I was a little worried that he would
become homesick and wouldn't want to come back with me. My worries
were put to ease when he gave us equal
attention. He had a good time with his
former brothers and sisters, but knew when it was time to go home. He
has brought us so much joy and happiness into
our lives. We cannot thank Maltese
Rescue enough.
