Lacey went to live in
her forever home on November 10, 2001. Her mom Karen and dad Rich, sent
the following message about her new life. |
There is so much to say about Lacey (aka,
LeeLee). We lost our shepard/lab mix, 90 lb dog in August 2001 to
old age. We said, "No more animals. NEVER AGAIN!!!"
He was such a wonderful dog, we just could not see beyond him.
Well, one should NEVER say NEVER:) One day we were at Home Depot
and the lady in front of me at the check out had a Maltese
puppy....which was the cutest little girl. I was already falling
in love with the breed. I tried to get my husband to pay attention
to the puppy. He reminded me, NO MORE ANIMALS. But I didn't
forget that adorable little Maltese puppy.
Being the typical computer user, a few days later I searched the web for
information about Maltese dogs. (I decided to man myself with
information and then talk to hubby:) In that process, I found the
AMR web site. Up for adoption was this adorable little lady
named LeeLee, 12 years old, and healthy. I found her irrisistable,
but was troubled by her age. We had just lost a 12 yr. old dog.
Did we want to be involved with an elderly dog again, and go thru
that pain of loss?
I thought about it for several days, and realized that this little lady
needed a home, no matter how old she is. She would certainly get
the love and attention she needed for the rest of her earthly days.
That is what she needed, regardless of her age.
Mary Harrigan has always described Lacey as "resilient".
That is her middle name. This lovely lady has been bounced around a
few times in the past 2 years. For an elderly lady, who was in one
home for 10 years, that must have been extremely difficult for her.
However, where ever she went she trusted over and over again.
Well, I wouldn't be writing this if I talked my husband's ear off enough
to realize that this little lady needed us. After the home visit,
it didn't take him long to like the thought of having her share our
lives. She came to her forever home on Nov. 10, 2001...one day
before our first wedding anniversary. She is one precious present!
We went from a 90 lb. dog to a 9 lb dog (who wanted to sleep with us,
something we were not used to) so there were a few adjustments for all.
She needed a home, loving "parents", and stability.
Those things we have given her with all our love. However,
this little lady has given us so much more. She loves us
unconditionally, with her whole being, and entertains us every day.
She twirls when she is excited. It is the cutest thing to
watch her spin. She can spin from one end of the house to the
other, without hitting anything in the process. When she ends her
spins no matter how long or short they may be, she does this cute little
tap dance with her front paws. And that face!!!! It is so
incredibly precious to look at, that she makes us melt. At times,
at least once a day, she gets into a high speed mode, and runs from one
end of the house to the other, jumping over every threshold as if they
were 3 ft. high. She ends up messing up every braided rug in the
process. But we are laughing so hard at her antics that we don't
care. As far as being 9 lbs instead of 90 lbs......well don't tell
her that. She thinks she is the biggest dog on earth when she sees
the neighbors cats!
All this spunk from this little lady, and I was concerned about her age?
Just goes to show that age is only a number. Our
"queen" Lacey is as spry as a 1 year old.
We are truly blessed to have found Mary Harrigan and AMR. I
applaud her devotion to these dogs. If it weren't for Mary, Lacey
wouldn't be in our lives, and that is unthinkable.
